Changing the rules

Have you ever wondered why you are told to do certain things, or why systems exist in a certain way? Our country and community is governed by a series of laws and rules. Learn more about them, why they are in place and if you think they are sensible for our society.

Where to start

Southend has a law court, where you can watch the law in action by sitting in the public gallery of a court case. Why don’t you go along and see what it’s all about!

Decision making happens within Southend Borough Council – you can also watch their meetings in the Civic Centre or online.

Join the Youth Council and get involved!

Think about whether you agree with the laws and decisions of our county, and how you might work to change them if not. Why do people protest? What protests have made a different to changing the rules?
